Leading fleet software specialist, Mycompanyfleet, the automotive division of HR software supplier, NorthgateArinso, says modern fleet management software systems can help fleet operators manage SMR in several ways, including the automation of maintenance forecasting, monitoring costs by identifying vehicles with recurring repair problems, and providing the audit trail to keep the business in line with duty of care requirements.

“With more and more fleets extending the disposal age of their vehicles, SMR is becoming more of an increasing important issue for the average fleet manager. And there is still a significant split between fleet operators that outsource SMR to local dealer networks and other suppliers, and those still managing SMR in-house through their own workshops,” he said.
To account for this, Mycompanyfleet’s FleetAcumen system has been developed with two key interfaces; one, to other fleet suppliers that can automatically import data from external sources, such as the Arval Service card; and the other providing a Workshop Module that allows fleet and transport managers to manage the whole process in-house.
FleetAcumen will not only record all SMR costs, but the system’s easily configurable and intuitive dashboard displays can even identify the tipping point when it becomes more cost effective to replace a vehicle rather than continue maintaining it. The dashboard will also automate the service schedule reminder process by sending an automated e-mail to the fleet manager and the driver.
“This can remove a huge amount of pressure for the fleet manager as it provides peace of mind that key vehicle service and maintenance work will not be missed. The simple diary planner highlights month by month all the SMR tasks due, including manufacturer specified services, MOT’s or tachograph inspections, “said Paul Jackson.
“Our FleetAcumen system removes the pain for the fleet manager by automating maintenance forecasting, recording and managing all SMR costs by exception, as well as providing that all important audit trail of the maintenance work carried out,” he added.
The Mycompanyfleet system also copes with fleets that have extremely complex service schedules.
“One client had a fleet of mowers that required servicing once a month from April through to September but only once from October through to March. Our FleetAcumen system was flexible enough to handle this type of unusual service profile,” said Paul Jackson.
