Developments in fleet software enable more employees to work at home

Developments in fleet software could enable many employees to work from home, especially during bad weather.

As the severe weather at the beginning of February prevented many staff from travelling to the office, developments in technology, including fleet software, could enable many employees to work from home.

Mycompanyfleet's Business Manager, Andrew Leech, says enabling fleets to work more flexibly could offer many benefits.

This year’s winter, the most severe in a generation, has meant that many workers have not been able to get to work or move around the road network to business meetings. The Centre for Economic and Business Research says that several days' productivity may have been lost due to the bad weather, adding that an additional 2,000 to 3,000 businesses may fail as a result.

However, the latest technological developments such as high-speed broadband mean that many workers are able to connect comfortably to central computer systems and work effectively while away from the office. This includes fleet managers themselves.

To facilitate more widespread home working, the latest generation of fleet software is adaptable and portable and allows managers to access systems remotely using a variety of devices, such as the web, PDA or smart phone. This means they can be just as effective working from home in many cases and when circumstances dictate.
