Regardless of your fleet size, managing duty of care is an extremely important issue and there is a legal framework with which fleet owners need to be compliant, including the Corporate Manslaughter Act, Health & Safety guidance, various road traffic acts and regulations supported by the Highway Code.

Your main responsibility is to your drivers and ensuring they are driving safe vehicles, which are adequately maintained and insured, in a safe manner with due regard for other road users and pedestrians.  As such there needs to be policies, procedures and safe systems of work in place that reduce work-related risks for your drivers, including those who drive their own vehicles on company business –  so-called ‘grey fleet’ drivers.
